Joining Virgin Active
At the end of the tour the saleswoman sat down with me and talked about prices.
Virgin Active do not have peak / off peak times, so the flat fee gives access at all times and for all classes.
Each Life Centre has a slightly different rate, and there are discounts for the over 55's and 16-17 year olds.
At this particular Life Centre the monthly fee is £47, but as an NHS employee I was offered the corporate rate of £43/month.
I thought this was a reasonable deal, especially because there is good provision for the kids, although this would be an additional expense. (I am a bit confused about the pricing for the creche and opening times, but I had a tour of the creche and it looked nice, modern and secure.)
I filled in the forms, and paid the 1st month’s fee by credit card. The rest would be taken by monthly direct debit.
You are not tied down to an annual contract, and can cancel anytime. Although if you do agree to the annual contract it costs even less per month.
The saleswoman created my account on Virgin Active database, took my photo with her webcam and gave me my swipe card.
The bar-coded swipe card has a "Swipe Number" which can be used to access the members-only area of the Virgin Active website. This allows members to make class bookings online.
Finally she made an appointment for my gym induction, which would be 4 days later. (I could still come in and use all the facilities in the meantime though.)
